Downeast Stamps - Terms & Conditions

Hinging and Gum

All stamps have been hinged unless listed as "NH". All stamps will have original gum (OG) unless described as regummed (RG) or ungummed (NG).

Unless noted as NH, gum can be expected to be disturbed from hinging and other causes. Therefore, stamps not listed as NH may not be returned because of disturbed gum, hinge remnants, etc. Stamps listed as LH will obviously have much less disturbance than those listed as simply OG.

Descriptions

Describing and grading are an art, not a science, and therefore the descriptions provided in this catalog may not agree with the opinion of others, including trained experts.

In large lots, the degree of condition denotes the average and stamps above and below such condition can be expected.

Minor separations on blocks and sheets are the rule, not the exception, and are not grounds for the return of a lot.

Covers

Unless listed as VF, covers which have passed through the mails will generally show signs of wear such as torn or partly missing back flap, minor smudges, tears and wrinkles. On postal history covers, condition of stamps is secondary. On less expensive stamps, centering and minor defects such as short perfs are not mentioned. Such items as listed above are not justification for the return of a cover.

Prices Realized

A list of prices realized will be available about 10 days after the close of the sale. Price is $1.00 per sale or $4.00 for our next six sales. Prices may also be viewed on our web site.

Regarding Late Payments

In order for us to settle promptly with owners of the stamps auctioned, we expect invoices to be paid within five days of receipt. If the account is still open at the end of 30 days, we will charge 2% interest rate per month (24% per year) for late payments. May we have your cooperation in remitting promptly, thus keeping your credit always in good standing.

Est.-Estimated Net Value

EST is the amount that we feel informed bidders will pay for the lot. This value is based on our experience with previous sales of similar material. Lots may realize more or less than our estimate. This is not a catalog value. Bids of less than 70% of the estimated value are not likely to be successful.

Conditions of Sale

1. All lots will be sold to the highest bidder at a standard advance over the next bid. In case of tie bids, the earliest bid received will prevail. A 10% buyer's commission will be added to successful bids.

2. Minimum bid is $10.00. Bids below $10.00 will not be recorded.

3. All bids are per lot as numbered. We reserve the right to group, divide or withdraw lots, or to act in behalf of the seller.

4. Terms of sale are cash on receipt of invoice. Bidders known to us must pay for lots within five days after receipt of lots. Bidders unknown to us will be notified of successful bids, and payment must be made within five days after receipt of invoice. Lots will be shipped immediately upon receipt of payment.

5. Any lot which is incorrectly described is returnable, but only within (5) days after receipt and intact as received.

6. All lots are sold as genuine. However, if an opinion by an expertising service such as the Philatelic Foundation, APS, or PES states that a stamp or cancel is not genuine, the purchase price and opinion expenses will be refunded in full.

7. We will not be responsible for any charges incurred by the buyer for expertization fees and costs unless the opinion states the item is not genuine. In other words, if a lot is found to be genuine, but not as described due to faults, the purchase price will be refunded, but all expenses will be borne by the purchaser.

8. Scott catalog numbers are used for identification. Values listed are from the latest Scott Retail Catalogs, unless marked "EST".

9. Postage, insurance and handling will be charged to the buyer, minimum $1.00.

10. Space fillers, collections, lots of ten or more stamps, stamps described "AS IS", and stamps described as having faults are not returnable for any reason. Lots which are photographed are not returnable because of centering, cancellation, perforations or margins.

11. All bids and payments are to be made in U.S. funds only.

12. We cannot accept responsibility for bidder's errors. PLEASE CHECK YOUR BID SHEET.

13. Placement of a bid constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions.
